Brake Noise Guide: What You Can Ignore and What You Cannot
January 29, 20263 min read
Not every brake sound is an emergency, but some are. Here is a quick rule-set to decide when to book service immediately.
A short squeal in wet conditions can be normal. It usually disappears after a few brake applications.
A metallic grinding sound is different. It can mean pad material is gone and metal touches metal. Stop driving and book repair immediately.
If the steering wheel shakes under braking, check discs and suspension components. Vibration often indicates uneven wear or heat damage.
If the car pulls left or right while braking, do not delay diagnostics. Uneven braking force can be dangerous in emergency stops.
