Preparing the air conditioner for the season: why is "just refilling" not enough?

With the first warm rays of the sun, we reach for the A/C button, waiting for a pleasant coolness. But often, instead of freshness, we get a weak airflow or, worse, an unpleasant smell of dampness.

An air conditioner is not just a refrigerator in your car. It is a complex system that requires regular maintenance so as not to become a breeding ground for bacteria.

Why shouldn't you postpone preparation?

1. Bacteria and allergens During the winter, moisture and dust accumulate on the evaporator of the air conditioner - an ideal breeding ground for fungi and mold. They are the cause of a specific smell and allergic reactions (sneezing, lacrimation) in the driver and passengers.

2. Natural leakage of freon Even in a working system, up to 10–15% refrigerant. If it is not enough, the compressor works at its limits, overheats and may fail. And compressor repair is one of the most expensive procedures.

3. Clogged radiator (condenser) During the winter, the air conditioner radiator becomes clogged with salt, dirt and dust. This impairs heat transfer: the system is running at full capacity, but it's still hot in the cabin.

4. Old cabin filter If the windows start to fog up and the airflow has become weak, your filter is clogged. It not only does not allow air to pass through well, but also accumulates everything that you breathe during the trip.

What is included in proper preparation for the season?

• Freon refilling: removal of old gas, vacuuming the system and filling the exact rate of refrigerant with the addition of special oil to lubricate the compressor.

• Replacing the cabin filter: installation of a new high-quality element (preferably coal).
