The giveaway with a worn link is that the knocking gets worse over uneven surfaces and disappears or fades when you drive straight and steady on smooth tarmac. What the job includes
The service starts with the car up on the lift and a visual inspection of the running gear. The mechanic checks the condition of the link and looks for play and for cracks in the plastic or rubber parts of the joints. Only then do we agree the scope of the work and its cost - before the repair starts, not afterwards.
The anti-roll bar bushes are often replaced at the same time as the link itself, since both wear out at roughly the same rate. The bushes hold the anti-roll bar in its body brackets and they also crack, harden and start to develop play.
