Why brakes squeak: it's not always about the pads
An unpleasant squeak or grinding sound when braking is not only an irritant to the ears, but also a serious signal from your car. Many drivers believe: "It creaked - then it's time to change the pads." However, it often happens that the pads are new, and the sound has not disappeared anywhere.
Why does this happen? Let's analyze the real causes of "musical" brakes.
1. Wear or overheating of the brake discs
If the disc has uneven wear ("waves") or a high rim has formed on it, the new pad cannot fit snugly. This causes high-frequency vibration, which we hear as a squeak. Also, after overheating, a mirror film (glazing) can form on the surface of the disc, which critically reduces braking efficiency and adds noise.
2. Acidic caliper guides
This is one of the most common reasons. If the guides are clogged with dirt or left without special lubricant, the caliper cannot move freely. As a result, the pad is pressed at an angle or does not move away from the disc completely. This leads to overheating, uneven wear and constant squeaking.
3. No anti-squeak plates or lubrication
Many people forget about the metal plates that stand on the back of the pad. Their task is to dampen microvibrations. If they are rotten, lost or not lubricated with a special high-temperature paste at the points of contact with the piston, the creak is guaranteed.
4. Garbage and "glaze"
Fine stone, sand or reagents from the road can get between the disc and the pad. In addition, with aggressive braking, a hard layer forms on the new pads, which must be professionally cleaned.
5. Quality of friction material
Yes, sometimes it's about the pads themselves. Cheap options contain a lot of metal inclusions. They "walk" for a long time, but all this time they mercilessly squeak and "sharpen" your brake disc.
Important:Brakes are your safety. Even if the sound seems insignificant to you, it can be a symptom of a wedged system, causing the brakes to fail at a critical moment.
It's time to restore comfort and safety to your car!
Do not try to guess the cause of the squeak yourself. Our craftsmen will conduct a complete revision of the brake system: we will check the condition of the discs, lubricate the guides, check the integrity of the anthers and the quality of the pads.
